Energy Efficient Homes for Gulf Coast and Louisiana Hot Humid Climates

 

All of the following residences have means to provide for passive ventilation during moderate exterior conditions usually by creating a chimney effect and means to shade or insulate the interior from the exterior during uncomfortable exterior conditions.

Built with fairly low budget of approximately $125.00/sf

European Beau Haus feel.

EDWARD CAZAYEOUX’S HOME

Gulf coast vernacular residence built with conventional wood framing but techniques to utilize stacking effect of rising hot air to cool the structure both within the building envelope and between the roof and decking. The home is thermally grounded with an enclosed crawl space that is utilized as a plenum to circulate air through the home. The home uses interior walls fabricated with bousillage (spanish moss and clay) to provide for mass for thermal storage of energy.

Gulf coast vernacular residential form with wrap around porch and utilizes open loop water exchange HVAC.

Very similar in construction to the Cazayeoux Home
